I performed very well in my company during 2015 and won a trip to President’s club…
And I deicided to take Bob with me.
On our way to Hawaii we stopped at brewery in the Phoenix airport.
There were plenty of beers from which to choose, and I went with…
The Sunbru, a Kölsch style beer.
Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.
Arriving in Hawaii and me and another employee were getting the VIP treatment.
We loaded up our bags into the van…
Left the aiport…
And headed to the resort.
We were staying at the Kaua’i Marriott only a short drive away.
Our room was spacious…
With a nice bathroom…
And a ground floor view.
We wasted no time in heading out to the pool (I think we had been awake for about 18 hours at this point).
We grabbed some beers and snacks…
And then went for a walk.
Bob enjoying the local wildlife.
10pm, 24 hours after we woke up (we went to bed right after this picture).
The next morning it was back down to the pool area.
First, however, some breakfast.
The beach was adjacent to the pool area.
I sat in this exact spot 4 years prior (https://scotthabicht.com/?s=And+another+beach+number+9+the+next+day.).
I thought about surfing, but ended up not doing it.
We didn’t like our ground floor room, so we asked to be moved.
While we were waiting, we headed out to the beach.
Same spot, other side.
Beer on the beach? Sure!!!
A romantic note sent to Molly while I was away.
Some of the local birds.
We got the call our new room was ready, which looked exactly like the old room…
But with a much better view.
It happened to be directly above our old room.
These koi were crazy and would come out of the water to get food.
This was Mariachi’s Authentic Mexican Cuisine, and we ate there almost every day.
Their fish tacos are THE BEST!!!
Afterwards we went for a walk around the resort.
Drinking at the resort wasn’t cheap, so we bought the resort soda refill cup and bottles of rum. Much cheaper.
Hanging in the hot tub.
The next morning I went for a run.
Bob came along and we walked the last bit.
Back at the room before heading out for breakfast.
After some eats it was time to sit poolside.
How to keep from getting sunburned.
We had to go back to the room to get more beer.
Lunch was, of course, at Mariachi’s (who also has the best ceviche).
We had arrived a few days early, and now the work folks were starting to roll in.
Sunrise the next morning, and we were trying to catch the green flash.
We actually ended up seeing a blue flash, which is much more rare.
Out for a walk afterwards, and we came across this cool tree.
Looking back at the harbor.
There was a well maintained golf course next to the resort.
See that lighthouse? That was where we were trying to go.
The path ended, and we had to walk down to the beach.
It was really steep.
Waves crashing into lava rocks.
See the bananas?
Getting closer.
After much searching, we finally found the path that went to the lighthouse.
And we took pictures of it up close.
It was a nice view from the lighthouse.
The whole lighthouse.
I started my watch about a mile in, so this was most of our walk.
I love to wear tie-dyes on vacation.
Breakfast.
This is a lot of what we did on the trip. We sat around, drank, and generally did nothing.
The roosters were all over the island.
Bob loves foo dogs.
Getting ready to head to the first company function.
Selfie on the way out.
Some beerporn to start the event.
They were ready for us.
A quick announcment…
And then it was time for food.
The next morning, and this was breakfast before heading out to scuba dive.
I was with a group and we headed to the dive shop.
The dive boat.
There were turtles everywhere. This one was about 4 feet long.
In between dives.
Ray and I had a great time and saw a few sharks and dolphins!!!
Lunch when I got back to the resort.
Heading out to dinner with the company.
Dinner was on the water…
And the food was going to be good.
Yum!!
The big-wigs gave a quick speech to end the night.
The next morning was the group activity.
We were heading out to a catamaran for a day on the sea.
Our boat for the day.
Our boat found itself surrounded by a pod of about 150 dolphins.
After they left, I decided to take a nap.
Again, waves against the lava.
Beerporn, too.
Lunch was served.
I went with a veggie and cheese sandwich.
Those lying down ended up gettting seasick.
The dolphins joined us on the way back, too.
The seasick people got dropped off and the boat went back out.
Bob and I, however, walked up a block to a brewery.
Lots of good beers on tap.
Kaua’i Island Brewing. As the world’s western most brewery, their slogan is, “Your last beer until tomorrow”.
After the (last) beer it was time to get back on the bus.
A cool looking picture I took while on the bus.
We had an offical meeting during the trip.
It was not too bad and lasted about 2 hours.
Only funny the first time you see one.
Our last night’s dinner.
The food was great…
And then it was award time.
Oh yeah!!!!!
Afterwards, we headed out for some karaoke.
You know I’m going to do it.
My laid-back singing style.
The last full day, and we headed to town to walk around.
A flame thrower that hooks to your propane tank.
Beer while we’re out? Sure!!!
The view was nice and it was great to relax.
Afterwards we went for a walk along the beach.
We only did a small section of the trail.
Along the way we found a thrift store and bought some used vinyl.
Our last trip to Mariachi’s.
I will miss their food.
It was time to get ready and go to the airport.
A few last minute goods before leaving.
I will miss the vacation.
Good planning.
Goodbye, Mariachi’s.
Goodbye, resort.
I took this picture of my feet in the Pacific Ocean becuase about 24 hours later I was standing in the Atlantic Ocean.
How to ride an escalator.
The airport wasn’t too bad…
And I just took a nap for most of the flight.
Well, that’s all. Time to land in Baltimore.
