My business trip to Vienna (Wien), Austria started with a trip to Dulles airport.
I was flying the national airline…
And with time to kill I grabbed dinner and a Starr Hill Northern LIghts IPA.
The meal on the plane was pretty good, too.
Of course a beer to wash it down with wasn’t so bad.
I arrived at the hotel early, so I had breakfast while waiting for my room.
This was the room they gave me…
Which wasn’t bad…
But I wanted a room with a view, so I got this one instead. (Do you see it yet?)
Personally I thought the toilet was mounted too high off the floor, but other than that the bathroom was OK.
I thought it was a balcony, but alas, the window opened in a manner that didn’t allow access.
My room was the window just under the second round window from the left.
My first night in the city, and I need some food.
Thanks to the fine folks at reddit I found this place, Siebensternbräu.
I had the Märzen.
I also had a bowl of garlic soup…
And a spinach strudel.
I left there and headed out for a walk…
And found my way to Wieden Bräu.
Here, I went with the dark beer, which was their Dunkles.
As with the other place, they brewed their beer on site, too.
A brief guide as to how they brew the beer.
The next two days were nothing but work, but after that was done, I went out with some of the customers.
The trams ran all over town, but we were taking another type of public transportation.
We headed to the subway…
Which had no toll gates, and was based largely on the honor system of payment.
We arrvied in the center city area, which is known for shopping and being a tourist attraction (among other things).
The Opera House from the back (probably my favorite picture from the trip)…
And from the front.
Looking back down the street from which we came.
After all that walking, we needed a beer…or two…
So again I found myself at a place that brewed their own beer.
We grabbed a table with a tap…
And I ordered the wheat beer.
You had to call ahead for the table tap, so we just got our beers from the tap at the bar.
The food was really good. I had the Käsenockerl mit gemischtem Salat.
After eating, we headed across the street to another local brewery.
This one served American style beers…
Which I found to be quite good.
While I was there I literally bought this shirt off of Anna’s back. (They didn’t have any more of that style new).
Good times were had by all.
On my way back, I took a picture of the main cathedral.
Good thing I had the wide angle lens on.
I was going home from memory, as the other’s had already left…
But I managed to find my way through the subway and city to get home.
I saw this when I got back to the hotel room. How long until you see it? (aka When you see it)
Well, the time came to leave Vienna…
And I was happy to head home!!!!
