Our weekend started with some treats before going to the Ani Difranco concert.
To find a bottle of wine waiting for us.
The next day, we arrived at our room for the weekend (notice name of room) at Tarara Vineyard’s Bed and Breakfast …..
So we wasted no time in opening it, and capturing the moment.
Our room was named after this wine.
After a glass, we decided to take out one of the courtesy golf carts for a spin around the 475 acre farm lands.
This is the 10 acre lake that I told Kelli I’d throw her into if she got out of line.
Rows and rows of grapes…
almost ready to be picked and made into wine.
The landscape was quite beautiful…
And so were the women roaming the grounds!!
These are black walnuts. My Grandmother used to make cookies out them.
That’s “Whitey” the owner and his son, out to do their evening chores.
This is their dog, who as you might imagine, loved to run the grounds all day.
Kelli and I were going to go back in and get ready for dinner….
But decided to take a couple more pictures first.
Now, while Kelli was getting ready, I went looking through the drawers.
No drawers next to the bed…
But looks like there’s one here….
But where is the handle?
After some searching, I found this hidden button….
That when pressed….
Open the hidden drawer, but alas, the drawer was empty.
Time to go out for dinner to The Eiffel Tower Cafe
Dinner was wonderful, including the added ambiance of the local power outage.
That evening, I played the drunken blues for Kelli.
The next day (our 2nd wedding anniversary), we went out winery hopping in Lounden County, VA.
This was the first stop, and I might add, our favorite.
This winery is owned by the son of the people from the first, but we didn’t like his wines.
Coincidently, they are located next to each other, and share the same grapes.
This is our navigation system, my laptop hooked to a GPS.
Lets just say, we didn’t worry about getting lost in the back country.
Even without the navigational system, the wineries are well marked.
We had plenty of beautiful scenery to watch on our way to each winery.
Our third winery of the day…
Was located inside a barn.
A sunflower growing outside.
Kelli was going to get me this as an anniversary present, but I told her it wasn’t my style.
And while their location was wonderful, we didn’t like the wine so much.
On to number five for the day….
Kelli having had a few glasses by now, sets her sights on bigger things….
While I just did as told.
We went in for a glass (or two)…..
We saw them at number 5, so this time decided to have a glass of wine with them.
When I gave them the website address, I was surprised to see what else they had on the list.
Where were you on the moment you passed the two year mark?
Then it was on to number 6.
Our fourth winery….
Bales of hay were falling from the sky, good thing this farmer was there to catch them.
For those of you who think I have a bird problem, I would disagree.
And last, but not least, number 7, our winery/bed and breakfast.
No need to worry about driving anymore…
So I was able to cut loose a little.
Brian was happy to give us a behind the scenes tour of the “cave”.
It really was a cave….
A man-made one, but a cave nonetheless.
It was here that they made the wine.
Then pressed to get the juice with this machine.
The grapes are de-seeded and skinned with this machine…
With some time to kill, we went for a drive around the farm again, and ate some black berries.
I let Kelli drive…..
And she thought it was funny to make me run to catch up to her.
The property is located right on the Potomac River.
Later that night, we were ready to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary.
We went to Tuscarora Mill….
Where I had a few surprises waiting for Kelli….
